Interim Assistance Reimbursement (IAR) and Cost Avoidance savings enable the State of Maryland and the Department of Human Resources (DHR) to fund other critically needed programs and benefits. The influx of Federal dollars also positively impacts businesses and services throughout the state (Economic Infusion). These monies are injected into the economies of Maryland's neediest communities by the clients DEAP is able to have favorably adjudicated in the SSA disability determination process. Interim Assistance Reimbursement (IAR)- benefits due with respect to that individual and many pay to a state (or political subdivision thereof if agreed to by the commissioner of social security and the state) from the benefits withheld an amount sufficient to reimburse the state for interim assistance furnished on behalf of the individual (20 C.F.R. 42 & 1383 (g) (1) ). |
